About US
Touch of Eden School was started in June of 2020 by a small group of teachers, lead by Mrs Priscilla Chanza, who began teaching children in their homes. By the end of 2020, we were able to rent a small house for a creche for younger children, and a number of rooms in a rudimentary apartment block. Our accommodation is extremely modest, and we have no playground. Some of our classrooms do not have windows.
One of our operating principles is that a child may not attend school unless the fees are paid. We are strict about this rule, so that no one can take advantage of us. Currently, there are a number of children whose parents genuinely are unable to pay fees.
We currently educate 200 children, of which a few are sponsored by donor gifts. Our fees are about $50 per month, due to the severe economic conditions in South Africa. Sponsored children are from families whose parents have lost their jobs due to various reasons. The school really started to operate in February 2021.
We educate from creche to grade 7, we have 10 teachers who all originate from ZImbabwe. Our pupils primarily come from both Zimbabwe, Malawi and a number of other neighbouring countries.
We have a dedicated group of local volunteers, including Geoff and Margaret Abbott, Florentine Wijsenbeek and Susann Henggeler. (Provide link to Our Team)
